Peg City Parks Jigsaw - Puzzle Cutting Animation

Over the past couple of weeks, I've put some effort into crafting an animation that visualizes the construction of jigsaw puzzle pieces. I think it's pretty neat, so I thought I'd share the progress!

Animated Visualization - Cutting a Photo into Puzzle Pieces

The animation takes place in several stages. The photo zooms in from the side, then we see the puzzle grid form over top of the photo. Then we see the bezier curves for the edges of the pieces animate into place:

Next we see the bezier curves for the piece knobs animate into place:

With all of the geometry in place, we see the finalized edges of the pieces burn into the photo:

And finally, the pieces are randomly thrown into their starting positions:

Still images probably don't do the animation its full justice. But I was feeling pretty good about it, and wanted to get this out there!

Overall Project Status

I'm nearly ready to work on the actual gameplay, allowing the player to move pieces around and snap them in place. Then I'll need to work on a closing screen, when the player wins; maintaining player progress; and plenty of testing to make sure the photos I've chosen actually make for a good jigsaw puzzle.

I think I'm on pace to be able to release a pretty good "version 1" of the game sometime in the second half of May. Maybe early June at the latest. 😎
